I’ve often struggled with how to best document the setup on a*nix box to make it is replicable as possible, and it finally came to me today while reading a document I linked in a previous post that I could just do it as a shell script that would create the configuration for me, using comments to document anything that needed to be called out. The “here document” reference linked above provided some helpful instruction on how to best write out some of the text configuration files.
